Benefits which are available include:
Insurance:
Medical and Dental insurance through Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Alabama. The city pays 100% of the employee premium plus 50% of dependant coverage. Employee is responsible for 50% of dependent coverage.
Supplemental insurance is available through AFLAC. This is at the expense of the employee.
Life Insurance policy of $10,000 is paid after 12 months of service.
Vacation and Sick Leave:
Vacation and Sick Leave earned at a rate of 8 hours for every 174 worked. After 5 years vacation goes to 12 hours for every 208 worked. After 15 years vacation goes to 16 hours for every 208 worked.
Retirement Plan:
The City will offer retirement benefits through the Retirement Systems of Alabama to regular and probationary full-time employees, or as required by the Retirement Systems of Alabama. Members of the system will contribute five percent of their earnings, and the City will contribute prescribed amounts. Employees may retire at age 60 with 10 years of service or at any age with 25 years of service.
Additional Benefits:
The City provides a full-service credit union with procedures for payroll deductions.
Deferred Compensation:
The City may arrange tax shelters for employees who participate in retirement and insurance programs made available by the City in accordance with current regulations of the Internal Revenue Service.
Employee Assistance:
The City may arrange through medical and mental health abuse providers as means by which employees can address substance abuse and mental health problems. To the extent possible, the cost of these programs will be paid by the insurance carriers.
Direct Deposit:
The City offers direct deposit to the bank of employees choosing.
