The criminal investigations division (CID) of the Phenix City Police Department is charged with the responsibility of investigating all felony offenses, and misdemeanor offenses as directed, occurring within the geographic jurisdiction of the Phenix City Police Department.
The CID handles an average of twenty-four hundred (2400) cases per year. The CID currently consists of a general investigations unit, a juvenile unit and a crime scene/ evidence unit. The general investigations unit is responsible for the bulk of the felony calls to the police department. The unit is comprised of two lieutenants and ten investigators and handles adult cases. The juvenile unit is comprised of one lieutenant, two investigators and three school resource officers and handles juvenile felony cases and juvenile misdemeanor cases as directed. The crime scene unit is currently staffed by one sergeant and has the responsibility for processing major crime scenes and transporting evidence to the proper crime labs.
