Engineering and Public Works
Mission Statement:Public Works is a City Department that provides efficient and quality public services to the citizens of Phenix City through construction, maintenance and engineering services.
Public Works is divided into the following divisions:
- Administration
Services provided by the administrative staff include payroll, purchasing for the department, dispatch service, and any citizen request. - Engineering
This division provides engineering, construction and technical services to other Departments within the City Government. A more detailed explanation can be found on the Engineering page. - Landfill
The landfill receives construction and demolition waste from citizens of Phenix City and Russell County. Sanitary waste is directed to the Salem Landfill. A list of construction and demolition waste is posted at the landfill. Fees for disposing of waste are based on the weight and type of refuge. The fees are in accordance with City Ordinance #2010-18. Payment is required at time of disposal. The landfill is located off Hwy 431, west of the main Industrial Park Entrance.
Hours of operation are 8:30 - 4:00 EST Monday - Friday and 8:30-12:00 EST Saturday. - Limbs and Debris
This division maintains grass and vegetation on City Right-of-Ways and easements with periodic mowing and herbicide operations. Curbside limbs and debris removal is provided weekly throughout the City. Citizens following the limbs and debris removal policy help to ensure the entire City receives weekly service. Not following the policy may result in debris not being picked up. A copy of the policy may be obtained here. - Maintenance
This division maintains traffic signals, lighting and street signs throughout the City. It is also responsible for the maintenance of City Buildings. - Streets and Drainage
This division is responsible for the construction and maintenance of all City streets, sidewalks, curb and gutter, drainage structures and open ditches. - Vehicle Maintenance/Shop
This division maintains all the vehicles and equipment for the Public Works Department as well as other City Departments. The Fleet Management System is used to coordinate the operations within the shop.
