Duties of the City Council:
A five member Council governs the City of Phenix City. The City Council
is comprised of the Mayor and Council members who have been elected to serve
a four-year term. The Mayor and Council members are the leaders and policy
makers in the community elected to represent various segments of the community
and to concentrate on policy issues that are responsive to residents' needs
and wishes. The City Council’s duties include establishing goals and policies,
enacting legislation, adopting the city’s operating budget, and appropriating
the funds necessary to provide service to the city’s residents, businesses,
and visitors.
The City Council establishes policies and priorities for the provision
of effective and efficient municipal services. The City Council meets on
the first and third Tuesday of every month in a regular session at 9:00
a.m. in the Council Chamber located in the Public Safety building. On the
first and third Monday of every month, the City Council holds a work session
at 4:00 p.m. on the third floor of the Municipal building. Work sessions
are designed to allow the Council to talk on a more in depth level about
issues. The Council takes no formal actions at a work session.
